The Vintage Sports Car Club of Australia

Night Navigation Run Saturday 5 June.2010

Participants must have been relieved when the threatening weather held off for the event.  The inaugural rally in 2009 was conducted in squally weather, and recent weather patterns seemed to suggest that rain was to be normal for this type of event.

Some 28 people turned up at Les and Sue Miller’s Alladin’s cave  to receive Tim’s instructions.  Cars were sent off at one minute intervals to avoid bunching up….I suspect a subsequent waste of time as the hardly taxing navigation took it’s toll.

I travelled and jointly navigated with Krystna Andreoni in Richard’s gleaming Jaguar MKV, and despite our combined efforts, made sufficient initial errors of omission as to nullify subsequent efforts.

We were not alone.  Through the dark unlit roads of Berowra Waters, Arcadia and Dural, vintage and  other club cars criss-crossed one another going in various directions.  At one stage, Richard Walton’s TC was dimly seen immobile between some trees off the road.  Trying to throw others off the scent, I suspect.

Eventually and after a very pleasant 57K run on excellent roads we all arrived back at casa Les, where a gas barbeque was merrily smoking and regularly setting off the smoke alarm.  Not to worry, Les knew the process for silencing this annoyance.

The overall winners, and the bottle of Red, were Barry and Dot Shinfield.

We were very well catered for, and Les, Sue and Jacqui et al worked tirelessly to ensure that every one had their quota of sausages and onions.

What a venue for the social side of this event.  I for one, never tire of examining the interesting vehicles within the Millers’ garage.

Hopefully, this event will continue annually.  The roads were good, navigation and questions relatively simple (despite my failings!).

Thanks to Tim for the arrangements and the extended Miller family for their hospitality.
