Opening Rally 2010

David  and John must have made a sigh of relief when they woke up on Sunday the 28th of February to find it was not raining. With the recent  inclement weather we have had it was nice to get a fine day for their second attempt to stage the Opening Rally.

It was good to see so many new members, plus the familiar old faces. New members the  Garthon family arrived wearing full face crash helmets, a very sensible option in an open 1909 car without a windscreen and hood.

There were 32 cars on display, ranging from Veteran through to  Post Vintage and Post War Sports Cars.

Some we had not seen before like Malcolm's recently restored 4.7 Litre Scat, which was real crowd drawer and John's  recently restored 1924 3 Litre Bentley which we have not seen since the restoration.

Most people headed for home at around 2.30pm to avoid the forecast storm, as we motored home we could see the black clouds of  the  brewing storm to the south, we made it as far as Monterey, (just ten minutes from home) before the heavens opened up.

Despite the appalling weather on the original date, three members turned up on the day, including long time members Brian and Betty Blacker in their vintage Minerva.
